"It was freshman year," DioGuardi explained about her first year behind the judges' table. "It sucked. I'd never been on television. The 30-second sound bite — I'm Italian, that's impossible! To shut up is difficult!"The WMC has been the most important electronic music festival in the U.S. for the past 25 years. Typically it has been a place where names like Paul Van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and DJ Tiesto have held court, spinning four- to six-hour sets for their fans. However, a few now-household names first got their start at past WMCs. Back in 2008, a then relatively unknown artist graced the stage of the Armani Exchange Pool Party at the Raleigh Hotel — Stefani Germanotta, otherwise known as Lady Gaga. LMFAO also have the WMC to thank for bringing their music national attention.
"Trash talk to them then I put them in a Hefty," she rhymed. "Running down the court, I'm dunking on them Lisa Leslie."
